What Is Included in Your Complimentary Sleep Consultation?

Your consultation gives you time to discuss your symptoms and ask questions about sleep apnea treatment. Our Tulsa dentists will listen to your concerns and explain whether testing or dental sleep medicine may be a helpful next step.

Your visit includes:

  • An exam with our team
  • A conversation about your sleep symptoms and concerns
  • Education about how oral appliances can help treat obstructive sleep apnea
  • An opportunity to see samples of the appliances we use
  • Help getting set up for a home sleep study when appropriate
  • Time to ask questions about treatment, follow-up, insurance, and next steps

You do not need to arrive knowing which appliance you want or whether oral appliance therapy is right for you. That is what the consultation is designed to help you explore.

What Happens if You Already
Have a Sleep Apnea Diagnosis?

If you have already completed sleep testing, your consultation can focus more directly on your treatment experience and whether dental sleep therapy may fit your needs. Patients often visit us after struggling with CPAP or after being referred for an oral appliance.

We will review the information available to us, discuss your concerns, and determine whether additional dental evaluation is necessary before treatment.

If an oral appliance is appropriate, the next steps may include digital records, appliance selection, fitting, adjustment, and ongoing follow-up.

What Happens During

Your First Visit?

Every patient’s situation is different, but the first visit follows a simple goal: understand where you are now and determine what information is needed before treatment decisions are made.

We Start With Your Concerns

Your symptoms and treatment experience give us important context. We will talk about what prompted you to schedule the visit and what you would most like to improve. Patients often come to us because of concerns such as snoring, poor-quality sleep, daytime fatigue, an existing obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis, or difficulty using CPAP. If you have already tried sleep apnea treatment, we also want to understand what worked and what was difficult.

We Complete an Exam

Our team evaluates dental and oral factors that may influence airway-focused treatment. The purpose is to determine whether dental sleep care may be appropriate and whether we need additional information before discussing a treatment plan. If advanced imaging, airway measurements, or other records would be helpful later in the process, we will explain why before moving forward.

We Explain Oral Appliance Therapy

If you are exploring a CPAP alternative, we will explain how a custom oral appliance works and where it may fit into obstructive sleep apnea care. You will also have the opportunity to see appliance samples in person. Healthy Sleep Tulsa works with several appliance designs because treatment needs vary from patient to patient. You do not need to choose an appliance during your first conversation. Our doctors consider your diagnosis, teeth, bite, jaw, comfort, and other treatment factors before recommending a specific design. You can also review our oral appliance therapy options before your appointment.

We Discuss Sleep Testing When Needed

A dental examination cannot diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. If you have symptoms but do not yet have an appropriate sleep diagnosis, our team can help you get set up for a home sleep study when that type of testing is suitable. An appropriate medical provider reviews the study and makes the diagnosis. Healthy Sleep Tulsa then provides the dental portion of sleep apnea treatment when oral appliance therapy is indicated. Our home sleep testing information explains that process in more detail.

Your Care Does Not Stop at Appliance Delivery

One of the most important things to understand during your first visit is that oral appliance therapy is an ongoing process. Receiving the device is only one part of care.

Healthy Sleep Tulsa’s follow-up protocol includes:

  • An in-office visit approximately two months after appliance delivery
  • Appliance adjustment when appropriate
  • Titration sleep testing to evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • A six-month telemedicine visit
  • Yearly telemedicine follow-up
  • Communication with referring primary care and sleep physicians

We want patients to remain connected to care so comfort, dental health, and treatment progress can be monitored over time.

Complete Your Patient
Forms Before Your Visit

Completing your registration forms before you arrive can make check-in easier and give our team the information needed to prepare for your appointment. Healthy Sleep Tulsa currently provides separate registration options based on the type of care you are seeking.

You can complete your patient forms online before your visit.

If the practice needs additional records for your specific situation, our team will let you know before the appointment.

Questions About Insurance and Treatment Costs?

Sleep apnea is a medical condition, so eligible oral appliance treatment may be covered by medical insurance rather than routine dental benefits. Healthy Sleep Tulsa welcomes medical insurance and also works with qualifying Medicare patients.

Coverage varies by plan, diagnosis, treatment requirements, and eligibility. Our team can help you understand the insurance process and available financing options before you commit to treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

First Visit Questions Patients Commonly Ask

First Visit Questions
Patients Commonly Ask

It is normal to have questions before a sleep consultation, especially if dental sleep medicine is new to you. These answers cover several of the most common concerns about getting started.

No. You can begin with a consultation even if you have not completed sleep testing. If appropriate testing is still needed, Healthy Sleep Tulsa can help you get set up for a home sleep study. A qualified medical provider interprets the study and makes the sleep apnea diagnosis before dental sleep treatment is provided for diagnosed OSA.

No. The consultation is an opportunity to learn about your options and determine what next steps may be appropriate. Seeing appliance samples and discussing treatment does not mean you are committing to an appliance that day. Our doctors still need to consider your diagnosis and individual dental and airway needs before recommending treatment.

Difficulty using CPAP is one reason many patients contact Healthy Sleep Tulsa. For appropriate adults with obstructive sleep apnea, a custom oral appliance may be considered as an alternative. Some patients may also benefit from using an appliance alongside CPAP. Your diagnosis and medical treatment plan help determine which options are appropriate.

Yes. Healthy Sleep Tulsa communicates with referring primary care physicians and sleep physicians as part of our documented follow-up process. When oral appliance therapy is provided, we can send progress information to referring providers and coordinate objective follow-up testing, ensuring the dental portion of treatment remains connected to your medical sleep care.

The next step depends on what information is already available and what your evaluation shows. You may need sleep testing, additional dental records, or further treatment planning before an appliance is ordered. If oral appliance therapy is appropriate, our team will explain the fitting, adjustment, testing, and follow-up process before treatment moves forward.

A Focused Sleep and Airway Practice in Tulsa

Healthy Sleep Tulsa is dedicated to sleep and airway care rather than providing these services alongside routine dentistry. Dr. Lori Hare, Dr. Billie Reeder, and Dr. Robin Ross work with patients who need help navigating sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy, restrictive oral tissues, and myofunctional concerns.

For sleep apnea patients, that focused approach means your care can include coordination of testing, appliance therapy, titration, continued monitoring, and communication with other healthcare providers involved in your treatment.

Our goal is to make a complicated healthcare process easier to understand, one step at a time.

Schedule Your Complimentary Sleep Consultation

You do not have to keep guessing whether snoring, poor sleep, or difficulty using CPAP deserves another look. Your first visit gives you a chance to understand your options and determine what an appropriate next step might be.

I had a wonderful experience at my consultation for a dental device for sleep apnea! Everything was explained very clearly, including cost and insurance filing, as well as what to expect during treatment. They were friendly and also went above and beyond to schedule my next appointment at a convenient time for me. I highly recommend Healthy Sleep Tulsa!

This office is fantastic. I started coming here to deal with snoring issues but they have helped me get a lot of the things done that should have been dealt with years ago. Invisalign (I finally feel great about my smile) tongue tie release (Jessica helped me get ready for the procedure and recovery was a breeze). And I haven’t slept better in years than I have with the sleep appliance — Julie is incredible. This office is also just full of delightful people. Can’t recommend more highly.
